What is the Air Race Classic?

The Air Race Classic is a 9 leg, 4 day, single engine, day VFR race among women with many different types of backgrounds and professions who all have the common love of aviation.
It started in 1929 as the Women's Air Derby and has gone through a couple name changes and growth!
There will be 52 airplanes with their respective pilots racing this year.

How the Race is Scored (In a Nutshell)

There are many different types of aircraft competing with different horsepower ratings, so having a race that is reliant on who gets to the finish first would not be fair. So each plane is "handicapped" meaning (in short), the plane is test flown and given their specific groundspeed which that aircraft and the pilots have to beat during the race. This means that altitudes, wind direction, wind speed, terrain, and aircraft performance play a major role in the race.
There are also penalties for incorrect fly-bys and radio calls. Fly-bys are done at the beginning and end of each leg to start the timer for the racers.

When is the Race?

June 19- June 22
